Evening

Onsen in Sounkyo, then dinner in the shared kitchen, sometimes cooked together.

Weekend

A culture experience: calligraphy, woodcraft with Hokkaido wood, Japanese cooking, or a guided visit to an Ainu chise.

Who it's for

  • ・Founders and managers who need a think week away from the noise
  • ・Engineers and creators on a career break, working on their own projects
  • ・Small teams of 2–4 looking for a quiet offsite
  • ・Parents who work while their children discover snow, nature and Japanese culture

Guests who worked from here

A software engineer from Italy, a former CTO and head of engineering, spent a career break here instead of in Tokyo: a whole snowy February working on his own research, helping design MOTO's logo, and making Japanese friends at our international exchange events.

Another CTO from Italy planned three weeks to get to know Japanese culture. He liked the life here so much that he stayed two months.

A French founder of a drone company, based in Martinique, came to Japan for the first time with his 7-year-old daughter. Together they visited the workshop of an Ainu artisan to learn about the culture, and his daughter tried skiing for the very first time at a nearby ski area, with Ayaka guiding and interpreting.

FAQ

Is the Wi-Fi good enough for video calls?

Yes for normal video calls: we measured about 70 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. Upload is the limit, so very large uploads or high-resolution streaming are slow. If your work depends on heavy uploads, tell us before you book.

Can I stay for a month or longer?

Yes. The Coliving Plan (14+ nights) has the lowest nightly rate, and guests often stay a month or two. Mention your dates in the request form.

Can I combine work with skiing?

That's the point. Kurodake is about 25 minutes from Kamikawa by bus, so a morning on the mountain and an afternoon at the desk is an easy rhythm.

Can I bring my family?

Yes. The private Japanese room fits 2 guests (3 on request). Children can join culture experiences such as calligraphy and woodcraft while you work.
